MTLEY CRE Bassist: 'I Would Love To Make An Extremely Heavy, Non-Commercial Record'
August 23, 201198-7 FM, the commercial modern rock radio station in Los Angeles, California, conducted an interview with MTLEY CRE bassist Nikki Sixx on Saturday, August 20 when the band returned to its roots and closed the fourth annual Sunset Strip Music Festival (SSMF) in Hollywood. You can now watch more footage of the chat in two parts below.
While speaking about MTLEY CRE's plans to return to the studio to make a new studio album, Sixx said, "I've got a ton of riffs, I've got a ton of ideas, Tommy's [Lee, drums] got ideas, and eventually we'll just kind of start getting together in a room and showing each other ideas and see what happens. My idea for a record is We can't depend upon radio or anything else to sell records, so I think we should depend upon what really juices us, and for me right now, I would love to make an extremely heavy, non-commercial record more like a 'Shout At The Devil' type of a record."
MTLEY CRE launched the festival at an August 18 tribute event celebrating their 30-year career. The band accepted the Elmer Valentine Award at a VIP event at the House Of Blues which was described as "part back-patting and part roast." Guests and friends such as Dane Cook, THE DOORS keyboardist Ray Manzarek, NEW YORK DOLLS frontman David Johansen and author Neil Strauss (who co-wrote a book with the band, "The Dirt") paid homage to MTLEY CRE during the ceremony.
Each year, West Hollywood's world-famous Sunset Strip celebrates its rich musical history and influence with the Sunset Strip Music Festival, a three-day event that features a variety of artists throughout its venues culminating with an open air street festival on its last day.
